When an Orthodox Jew is found shot to death in Montreal, Temperance Brennan is called in to examine the body and to figure out the puzzling damage to the corpse. Unexpectedly, a stranger slips her a photograph of a skeleton and assures her the picture is the key to the victim's death. Before she knows it, Tempe is involved in an international mystery as old as Jesus, a mystery that could rewrite 2000 years of religious history.

Tempe learns that the stranger's picture shows bones uncovered during an archeological dig. She discovers the Montreal shooting victim ran an import business that might have fronted for the trade of black market antiquities. Along with Detective Andrew Ryan and biblical archeologist Jake Drum, Tempe travels to Israel to probe the origins of the skeleton and the ancient crypt in which it was found.

They make a startling discovery that raises radical questions about Christ's death and places them squarely in the middle of a swirling controversy. Could one of the tombs really be Christ's last resting place? Or, has someone concocted an elaborate hoax?

Cross Bones A Novel (Audible Audio Edition) Kathy Reichs Michele Pawk Simon Schuster Audio Books Reviews

It is the worse book Kathy has ever written. It's boring, hard to keep my mind on what I'm reading. It doesn't make a lot of sense. I would not recommend this book. A waste of my money..
I'm addicted to her books. I love that I actually learn something about the process or history or an area when I read these books. They are fiction but there is another level to them. There is a little bit of a formula in all her books but people are creatures of habit and I still really enjoy reading them. Sometimes the descriptions of things are unusually but totally spot on, clever and understandable.
Never watched the TV show "Bones" which I am told was based on this author. Just ran across her listing of books while browsing thru 's titles. I reviewed her first book, and said it was "Disturbing". I still think that. But I especially like the idea of an author actually working at what she writes about. So I downloaded all 12 of her books to my . In the last week, or so, I have read 8 of her books, and have four to go in this series. I find her mysteries good and compelling. I've even gotten somewhat used to reading about her cutting up dead people's bones and sifting thru their body parts. I dont think I agree with much that was written in this book about Jesus, but it was a good and interesting read. Now on to the next 4 books.
I have read her entire Temperance Brennan series and love that they are a fairly quick read as I do not have a lot of spare time. I can get through a book and not have to worry about having to sit it down for a few weeks and not remembering what all happened. Each book left me ready to read the next as this last one did...I cant wait for her to have a new book come out in this series....
Truly the most tedious and repetitive book. Not only were the Biblical implications not well thought out we get pages and pages of superfulous repetition. Lots of repetition. Repetition of the same ideas for the bones. Did I mention repetition. Had to skip to the last chapter just to finish.
I love Kathy Reichs' bones books. I am currently reading Flash Bones, which is the 14th book in this series and I have enjoyed everyone of them. The author is a forensic anthropologist who really knows her stuff and gets very technical at times, but I like it. I have learned so much from her. The books all have a good mystery to solve and it's fun to see how she keeps her head and gets out of so many perilous situations. All of these Temperance Brennen stories follow her on again, off again romance with detective Andrew Ryan. I think they are very well written and if you enjoy a good mystery, you will enjoy these books!
As a minister who knows a bit about bible, archaeology, and even Orthodox Judaism, a friend suggested it to me. The premise starts interesting but the plot gets terribly strained as it advances with implausibilities and false connections so that by the end, it seems to have lost its way. That early Palestinian Christians might have been among the slain at Masada is not too shocking.

The writing is tight, it moves quickly, makes a worthy presentation of specialized info, and the characters seem well defined and understood. Yet it seems like it may have been a hurried production that would have benefited greatly from more time with effective plot development.
I have read a number of her books and I always find that every book I have read inspires me to buy another. Reichs is so good at her real job that she has the knowledge to write the books she writes her books with first hand knowledge. Additionally, she knows all the right people, in real life, to be enable her to research other professions, which gives her the ability to make every individual in her books believable.

I would encourage anyone who loves a really good read, to pick any of her books, and get involved in a real adventure!
